Operate fourteen open digital modes β FT8, FT4, JS8, WSPR, PSK31, PSK63, PSK125, RTTY, Hellschreiber, Olivia, Contestia, APRS, AX.25 packet and multilingual Messaging β acoustically through your phone's mic and speaker, no cable box, no special hardware. Thirteen of them decode and transmit; WSPR is a transmit-only propagation beacon. Every one is an open, published protocol; bring your callsign and license and operate within your own privileges.
FT8 and FT4 decode and transmit far down into the noise, well below what the ear can hear β both on UTC slots, with an on-screen "Armed" countdown to the next window and callsigns and grid squares highlighted right in the decodes. JS8 joins them on 15-second slots for free-text keyboard chat, compatible with the JS8Call network β longer messages span consecutive slots and reassemble on receive.
RTTY and PSK31, PSK63 and PSK125 for real-time, keyboard-to-keyboard work β ragchews and nets over HF. RTTY has baud (45.45/75) and shift (170/425/450/850 Hz) selectors right on the console, off-air signals are acquired and tracked automatically (AFC and clock recovery β mistuned or drifting stations still print), and every keyboard mode shows a live character count and on-air time estimate under the message box as you type.
Hellschreiber (Feld Hell) paints its text as columns of dots straight onto a scrolling canvas β you read the letters with your eye, so a little noise or drift never breaks copy. Olivia and Contestia are very robust MFSK keyboard modes that pull text out well below the noise, where even PSK31 fails, with selectable tone/bandwidth variants β both stations just pick the same one.
A scrolling spectrogram of your rig's audio for every mode, with four palettes β Ocean, Classic, Green and Matrix. And it's interactive: tap a signal's trace on RTTY or PSK and the decoder locks on and follows its drift by itself (a squelch keeps noise off the screen); on FT8, FT4 and JS8 a tap places your transmit offset in a clear spot.
Hold the phone's mic near your radio's speaker and it decodes acoustically β no cable box, no special hardware. Transmit works the same way, playing the mode's tones back out into the rig (half-duplex).
Pick a mode from the dropdown and press Initiate β its full console (waterfall, decodes, message box and controls) opens inline, no separate screens. Press Terminate to switch modes; it remembers your last one, and background monitoring keeps decoding even when you leave the app.
Every mode ships its own tutorial β how to use it, best practice and real usage examples, plus an Input line telling you what the mode can carry (English/ASCII only, auto-wrapped scripts, or any language). It shows on the Modes screen before you press Initiate, behind the (i) in the top bar while you operate, and beside every mode toggle in Settings.
APRS and AX.25 packet decode and transmit β position reports, messages and data over the air, on the same open protocols hams have trusted for years. Decoded APRS positions show coordinates plus the distance and bearing from your grid.
Type in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese β any script β and send it over 1200-baud packet, and now over PSK31/63/125, RTTY and JS8 too; another Ham Signaling station shows it in the same writing, while plain English goes out unchanged, readable by any station on the mode. The composer counts the space left as you type.
Every message you send echoes back into the receive view in an accent colour, each with a one-tap re-use to fire it again. A blue reply icon on a decode fills the message box with the standard next transmission β on FT8 and FT4 it walks the whole exchange (grid, report, RR73, 73), and on the keyboard modes it sets up the call-up to the station you heard.
Ham Signaling logs your contacts β FT8 and FT4 automatically when an exchange completes, RTTY, PSK and JS8 with a one-tap bookmark β and shares the whole log as an ADIF file you import straight into Ham Logging or any logger.
Ham Signaling reads your radio's frequency and mode over CAT so every logged QSO carries the true dial frequency β and it never sends a transmit command. Connect over the network (Hamlib rigctld / wfview on port 4532β4533, Icom WLAN direct RS-BA1 for the IC-705 / 9700 / 7610 / 905 / 7300MK2, Kenwood KNS on the TS-890S / 990S at port 60000, Elecraft K4 over Ethernet on port 9200, or a raw serial-over-TCP bridge such as ser2net or a USR-W610 / Elfin EW10βEW12 WiFi-serial dongle), over Android USB-OTG serial (CI-V, Kenwood, Elecraft and Yaesu cables), or over Bluetooth (the IC-705's native BLE, a generic HM-19 / Bluefruit BLE-UART module, or Android Bluetooth SPP). A searchable radio picker (around 90 models across Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood, Elecraft, Xiegu, QRP Labs and Expert Electronics SunSDR (over TCI/WebSocket)) labels every model honestly β VERIFIED on real hardware or IMPLEMENTED PER SPEC β and tells you up front which rigs have no CAT at all, like the FTM-family handhelds. Read-only by design: it listens, it never keys.
